Description
Discover Your Career at Emory UniversityEmory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.
Description
Located 36 miles east of Atlanta on Emory's original campus in Oxford, Georgia Oxford College of Emory University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Developmental Psychology to begin August 2023. The division seeks a scholar with a background in developmental psychology with a lifespan perspective, broadly construed. We seek, in particular, a teacher-scholar engaged in developmental research that interfaces with diversity, equity and inclusion, culture, gender, race, ethnicity, ability, or other historically marginalized or under-researched populations.
The teaching load is three courses per semester. Candidates should be prepared to regularly teach an introductory course on development across the lifespan, an introductory psychology course (Psych 111), and courses in the candidate's area of expertise including a first-year seminar (Discovery Seminar--DSC 101). The Oxford College curriculum includes opportunities for experiential, community-based, and global learning courses and we encourage inclusion of a statement or syllabus illustrating how your regularly offered courses might extend these types of opportunities for our students. For more information, please read about our signature academic programs here: https://oxford.emory.edu/academics/index.html.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, an ability to maintain a productive research agenda, an interest in active engagement in service (broadly defined) and demonstrate a strong appreciation for the University's student-centered mission.
Qualifications
Required - A Ph.D. in Psychology or a sub-discipline completed by August 2023
Preferred - Candidates with experience in inquiry-based teaching and student-centered learning are particularly encouraged to apply.
Application Instructions
To be considered, applicants must submit the following via Interfolio http://apply.interfolio.com/112768:
- cover letter (see below)
- current curriculum vitae (CV) with a section listing active engagement in service to your current institution, community, professional affiliations, or students beyond the classroom setting
- statement of teaching that references included evidence of, or commitment to, excellence in teaching (see below)
- research statement with a section describing how you plan to involve first- and second- year students in your research
- one-page diversity statement discussing skills, experiences, and commitment to: teaching and mentoring diverse and historically underrepresented student populations, professional service that assists in achieving equity, inclusion, and diversity, and how past or future research addresses fundamental questions important to an increasingly diverse and global society
- graduate school transcripts (unofficial acceptable at this time)
- contact information to include names, email addresses, and phone numbers for three potential references (references will be contacted by the search committee separately)
Applicants' cover letters should address their qualifications for the position as well as their interest in working at a liberal arts college with first- and second-year college students.
Evidence of, or commitment to, excellence in teaching could consist of student or peer classroom evaluations, example syllabi or assignments, and evidence of instructional improvement efforts including attending workshops, seminars, or conferences on teaching, or participation in a personal teaching consultation that resulted in concrete changes in your approach to teaching.
Evaluation of candidates is ongoing and will continue until the position is filled. Complete applications with cover letters submitted by October 16th, 2022, will receive full consideration. Questions can be directed to the chair of this search, Dr. Jennifer McGee, at jmjuerg@emory.edu
