Description
The Head Counselor of Boys Camp is a key member of the Windridge leadership team, responsible for overseeing the counselor staff assigned to the boys’ side of camp and for planning, directing, and supervising the residential areas of camp. This role provides direct support, training, and supervision to counselors while ensuring the smooth operation of daily schedules, cabin life, and camper well-being. The Head Counselor of Boys Camp sets the tone for professionalism, teamwork, and camp spirit among staff and campers.
Requirements
Desired Qualifications
- Previous camp staff experience (at least 2+ summers), with leadership or supervisory responsibilities preferred.
- Strong skills in staff management, team building, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to coach peers and give direct, constructive feedback.
- Experience working with children ages 7–15 in residential or educational settings.
- Knowledge of youth development and enthusiasm for sports/recreation.
- Maturity, professionalism, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to train and supervise staff in proper cabin counseling techniques.
- Ability to organize evening programs and activities for a camp-wide audience.
- Ability to direct and supervise the Counselors-in-Training (CITs) and Junior Counselors (JCs) in cabin counseling responsibilities
- Good character, integrity, and adaptability
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
- CPR/First Aid certification (we can provide the opportunity to obtain before camp).
Expectations
- Be highly visible and accessible to counselors throughout the day and evening.
- Balance administrative responsibilities with hands-on involvement in camp life.
- Set the example for counselors in professionalism, enthusiasm, and engagement with campers.
- Maintain clear communication with both staff and leadership.
- Approach challenges with flexibility, patience, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
- Provide evaluations for all male counselor staff, including CITs and JCs.
Dates & Compensation
- Commitment required from mid June to mid-August.
- Position includes salary, room, and board.
- Travel Allowance allocated for those traveling to Vermont.
- Option for pre and post-camp work for additional pay.
