ANNUAL SALARY: $124,015 – $152,990 DOE/DOQ

The County of Santa Barbara is seeking a Deputy Director over Administrative Functions for the Department of Social Services, as well as serve as Acting Department Director in his/her absence. This position works as a partner with other County and Department executives, to plan and organize objectives and formulate policy and direct and evaluate the work of the Department of Social Services and the County. This position can either have a background in program administration, finance, compliance, or administration, within a health and human service agency or mid-large governmental entity. The Department prefers the Deputy Director to report to our City of Santa Maria office (north Santa Barbara County), however the City of Santa Barbara office could be considered. Our ideal candidate will have a master's degree in social or behavioral sciences or management such as business administration, organizational management, public administration, or closely related degree, and seven years of increasingly responsible professional experience including five years of management level administrative, supervisory or project management responsibilities. THE JOB
This position can either have a background in program administration, or finance, compliance, and administration, within a health and human service agency or mid-large governmental entity. The Deputy Director of Administration's official County classification title is Assistant Department Leader – Executive, and this position is at-will, and oversees an approximate staff of 112 and a total department budget of $191 million; however if hired in as a Deputy Director of Programs the scope of oversight will change. The Department prefers this position report to our City of Santa Maria office (north Santa Barbara County), however, the City of Santa Barbara office (south Santa Barbara County) could be considered.

The Deputy Director of Administration will oversee the administration functions of the Social Services Department, which includes fiscal, systems, human resources, staff development, collections, compliance, facilities, and emergency response. This position will become an integral part of a close-knit executive management team and interact on a regular basis with other county leadership such as auditor-controller, human resources, general services, elected officials and other department leaders. The ideal candidate will have the ability to foster positive working relationships with others, effectively demonstrate political savvy and emotional intelligence, question the status quo, improve how we do business, and focus on finding ways to get to "yes."

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in social or behavioral sciences or management such as business administration, organizational management, public administration, or closely related degree, And
Seven years of increasingly responsible professional experience including five years of management level administrative, supervisory or project management responsibilities in implementation of policies, procedures, and processes in support of strategic plans, innovative change, and fiscal responsibility.

SALARY / BENEFITS:
Annual Salary: $124,015 – $152,990 annually DOE/DOQ. This salary range reflects the negotiable range for hire, however the top of the range for future career and salary advancement tops at $181,970.
Relocation Incentive benefit up to $20,000 may be approved
