Pay Range
$30.15 - $45.25
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field required. Additional expertise in trauma, art/music therapy, sexual health, grief, AYA support, and/or survivorship care is preferred.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:
State licensure or certification as a counselor, or therapist, or LCSW
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Triage and Referral:- Evaluate incoming referrals, determining acuity and allocating appropriate resources.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure seamless coordination of patient care.
 
- Counseling Services:- Provides psychosocial supportive counseling services to inpatients and outpatients: Formulates, develops, and implements a psychosocial treatment plan utilizing appropriate social work modalities and interventions, which may include crisis intervention, individual therapy, support groups, and grief and bereavement counseling.
- Conduct counseling sessions virtually and in person to accommodate diverse patient needs.
- Facilitate support groups, fostering a supportive environment for individuals affected by cancer.
- Accept inpatient referrals from within the Cancer Center, tailoring counseling services to meet specific needs.
 
- Specialized Experience:- Utilize additional expertise in trauma, art/music therapy, sexual health, grief, adolescent and young adult (AYA) support, and/or survivorship care, as applicable.
- Apply specialized knowledge to enhance the overall well-being and coping mechanisms of individuals facing cancer-related challenges.
 
- Social Determinants of Health (SDOH):- Systematically screen for Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) during patient interactions.
- Identify and refer patients to appropriate resources to address social, economic, and environmental factors affecting their well-being.
- Completes requests for financial assistance by distributing gift cards and/or facilitating financial benefits through the Cancer Center pharmacy.
 
- Organizational:- Abides by all organizational policies and culture commitments.
- Timely and compliant documentation for clinical encounters
- Participates in clinical research protocols at discretion of the Psychosocial Oncology Program/Cancer Patient Support Program (POP/CPSP) Director.
- Supports the work of the POP/CPSP Director & members of the POP/CPSP Program.
- Attends staff and multidisciplinary meetings.
- Assists in the promotion of CPSP services, offerings, and events: Healing Arts Clinic, Support Groups, SummerLark/Winterlark.
- Maintains up-to-date, complete, and accurate documentation of patient interactions and track programmatic activities, reporting quarterly to demonstrate outcomes and performance improvement activities.
- Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
 
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adapt counseling approaches to both in-person and virtual settings
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with ability to deal effectively with patients and their families.
- Triage or intake experience preferred.
- Interviewing and reporting skills
- Organizational and time management skills
- Ability/temperament to adapt to changing conditions and diverse job tasks.
- Ability to function under extreme fluctuating levels of pressure and stress
- Demonstrate teamwork and professionalism in working with patients and families
- Ability to work independently to meet program deadlines
- Ability to respond promptly to communications from the health care team to deliver quality, timely care to patients
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Knowledge of WakeOne Electronic Medical Record preferred
- Flexibility with work schedule and location
- Familiarity with insurance processes and procedures or understanding of general terminology preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology and/or experience working in a health services or oncology setting preferred
- Working knowledge of and ability to speak Spanish preferred
- Experience co-facilitating virtual support groups preferred
