Description
Purpose
The Commercialization Counselor (CC) serves as a key resource on campus to support and advance research commercialization activities. This individual works closely with faculty, staff, and students to encourage innovation, assist with intellectual property (IP) matters, and connect inventors to commercialization pathways. The CC also participates in statewide TTAC activities, including professional development and network meetings, and serves as the primary liaison between the institution and LaunchTN for commercialization services.
Essential Functions
Faculty Engagement & Commercialization Support: Regularly engage faculty to support invention disclosures, IP management, and commercialization planning. Maintain a pipeline of inventors and host events and office hours to encourage participation.
Infrastructure & Reporting: Develop processes for intake and Commercialization Readiness Level (CRL) assessments. Coordinate with internal offices to align commercialization efforts. Track key metrics and ensure timely reporting to LaunchTN.
Education, Outreach & Ecosystem Engagement: Lead campus outreach, workshops, and events to build commercialization capacity. Serve as a connector between inventors, mentors, and external partners. Act as a campus advocate for innovation-driven economic development.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with seven years of related professional experience or a master’s degree from an accredited institution with five years of related professional experience. Experience in technology commercialization, entrepreneurship, research administration, or IP management. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating across departments and institutions.
